- Sheena Matos – Life/Meditation coach at Devine Love Coaching
Hello, my name is Sheena Matos. I am a certified life coach specializing in the Law of Attraction, and I hold a certification as a Meditation Practitioner. There was a time when I allowed stress, anxiety, and self-doubt to rule my everyday life. As a mom of 3 kids, and a wife, I felt like my life was on autopilot. I found myself yelling more and more, getting angrier, and starting to feel stuck. I began to hate my husband; I began to want a different life.
When my mom passed, I hit an all-time rock bottom, and if it wasn’t for my 1-year-old son who needed me, I may have not gotten out of bed. I was raised in the church, and have always had very strong faith in God, however, after losing my mom even church didn’t lift my spirit. That is until I discovered that meditation is a form of prayer. I learned that meditation is a learned skill and it takes practice. I started to make a daily routine every morning before I got out of bed, and before I went to sleep. I give myself 10 mins to focus on one thing every morning, and 30 mins every night. I didn’t try to quiet my brain or stop the thoughts, I just let them flow. If I began to think of groceries, laundry, or something mundane, I would see those thoughts going up in bubbles. After a while, I was able to open my mind and allow it to focus. I was able to think of my mom and speak to her in my mind. I was able to listen to my Angels and Guides. I found that giving myself this time, made me a better mom, a better person, and put me in a much nicer mood. The more I did this, the less likely I was to lose my temper or yell at the kids.
Now, don’t get me wrong I am still a mom, and I do have to get onto my kids occasionally, but I no longer get upset about little things that used to throw me over the edge. It’s become such a huge part of my life that if I am moody, my youngest daughter will ask if I meditated that day. My children can see a huge difference in how I react to things, and how I communicate with them. It all started with me just closing my eyes and focusing on my breathing. I would feel the air going in through my nose, then out through my mouth. Over and over, I would focus on this while funny thoughts would appear in my mind, I would not engage in them. I’d just let them be while continuing to breathe in and out. My thoughts became more centered and clearer. Even though I had been doing meditation for many years prior, I lost it somewhere along the way. I forgot to give myself time. Meditation is your time, alone with yourself and your thoughts. I know that may seem a bit overwhelming, but when you get to know the real you, not the image you portray or how others see you, but the true light being that’s inside of you, you begin to love yourself more and more. That is such a powerful thing. When you can love yourself, it seems everything around you begins to fall into place. I’m not talking about just your looks, your body image, or anything superficial, I’m talking about who you really are. What makes you, you! It’s not your hair, or your face, it’s the light you have inside you. If you changed your looks, would you still be you? Of course, because the body is not who you are. It’s a vessel that keeps your light contained. The being that loves all things, and the soul that gives you the very life you’re living.
Meditation is one step to greater self-awareness. Many clients have told me they have tried and just can’t do it, but that’s why I teach modern-day meditation. It’s not what the Monks do. The ultimate goal of meditation is to clear your mind and silence that inner voice, but for the everyday woman, or Mompreneur like myself, that’s not exactly the easiest task to accomplish. It may feel daunting, and when thoughts come, you force them out of your head, making it even harder to concentrate. I believe the thoughts coming to you during your quiet time might just be the next great idea. I came up with my business name Devine Love Coaching, and my logo during a meditation. If I was trying to push those thoughts away, I may have missed that brilliant idea.
What I teach you is how to take those thoughts and focus them on what you do want, not what you don’t want. If you’re continuing to think of silly things like chores, those can be put aside for later. I even like to say in my head, “thank you for reminding me of that, I’ll come back to that thought later”. There is no wrong or right way to meditate. When I first started many years ago, I started with prayer. I would sit quietly and begin to pray. After my prayer, I would get quiet and just allow any messages to come through my head. I didn’t force anything or get upset if I began to think of work. I would just let them be, and continue to see in my mind’s eye. Sometimes I would see nothing, but I’d get a feeling of comfort, or I’d hear things but not see anything. A word or a song would come to my mind. Later I’d be singing it and the lyrics would help me get through the day feeling better.
Babies are not born knowing how to focus or calm down. They have to be taught to self-soothe or sit still. It’s the same with meditation. Now I can meditate anywhere, with dogs barking, and a noisy house. Practice makes perfect. Don’t give up if it doesn’t go as smoothly as you think it should. Meditation music was a huge help when I was first getting started. Also, having a coach is really beneficial, because they will give you tools to help you along the way. I know I would not be anywhere near where I am today if I didn’t have a coach. I learned the value of having that helping hand when I started my own coaching practice. Having that accountability partner, and that extra push makes a huge difference. I would be thrilled to work with you as your coach.
